Safety Glasses - Protecting Your Precious Sight

April 22, 2016 Claire McDonald
Everyday Eye Safety

For most people the prospect of losing sight is a devastating thought. We often hear the comment "I'd rather be deaf than blind". Yet this does not always translate into good practices around eye safety. Quite the opposite. A mixture of the kiwi 'she'll be right' combined with not having appropriate safety glasses handy results in an almost cavalier approach.

Every year it is estimated over 4,000 New Zealanders suffer an eye injury at work, many are left with impaired vision and some are blinded.

Prescription Safety Glasses

New laws around work health and safety have come into play this month so safety is topical. People with good vision access protective eyewear easily, just pop on protective glasses. For those who wear prescription lenses sometimes options are not straight forward and less successful. In many cases everyday prescription glasses are worn as a 'better than nothing' option. Or protective shields are worn over everyday glasses. Nowadays there are better solutions. Modern safety glasses have lightweight comfortable frames, designed with good ventilation. Safety lenses are both strong and light. The unit, lenses and frame, is certified and meets the standard AS/NZS 1337.6:2012 so you are also covered in terms of the Health and Safety Act.

Come and see us about options to protect your sight.
